The Role of a Refuelling Team in Motorsport
In endurance racing, a single pit stop can make or break the outcome. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Canobolas Motorsport Services to ensure that every aspect of our pit stops is executed with precision, safety, and speed. A refuelling team’s job goes beyond simply filling the tank; it’s a carefully coordinated effort involving specialised roles, each one crucial for minimising pit time and maximising safety.
Key Roles in the Refuelling Team:
Crew Chief: Manages the entire pit stop process, coordinating the team and ensuring all safety protocols are strictly followed.
Fuel Rig Operator: Handles the refuelling hose, making sure fuel is delivered efficiently into the car.
Extinguisher Attendant: Stands ready with a fire extinguisher, ensuring immediate response in case of any safety incident.
Dead Man Operator: Controls the safety valve on the fuel rig, preventing overfills and managing fuel flow.
Spike Man & Assist: Manages the connection of the refuelling hose to the car, ensuring a secure and swift operation.
Meet the Canobolas Motorsport Team
We are proud to partner with a team as experienced and dedicated as Canobolas Motorsport Services. Here’s a closer look at the experts who make up this outstanding team:
Nigel Buttriss (Crew Chief): With decades of experience in various forms of motorsport, Nigel leads the team with a deep understanding of racing dynamics. His expertise ensures that every refuelling operation is handled with utmost precision and professionalism.
Andrew Buttriss (Extinguisher & Rig Filler): Andrew’s role is crucial for maintaining safety during refuelling operations. His background in hill climbing and rallying, combined with his calm and composed demeanor, makes him a key asset to the team.
Ryan Buttriss (Dead Man Operator): Ryan’s focus and quick reflexes are vital as he controls the fuel flow during pit stops. His experience in officiating at events like the Bathurst 6 Hour has prepared him to handle the pressure of this critical role.
Scott Freestone (Spike Man): Scott’s dual experience as a driver and crew member provides a unique perspective, allowing him to ensure that the refuelling hose is securely connected and disconnected with maximum efficiency.
Andrew Brennan (Spike Assist): A newer member of the team, Andrew has embraced the fast-paced environment of motorsport and quickly adapted to the precision required for his role.

The Intensity of Pit Stops at the Bathurst 6 Hour
Pit stops at the Bathurst 6 Hour are a high-stakes dance of precision and speed, where every second counts. Each team must complete a minimum of three Compulsory Pit Stops (CPS), with each stop lasting at least two minutes to ensure all tasks are completed safely and according to the regulations. These stops are crucial for refuelling, driver changes, and any necessary car servicing, such as tyre changes or brake pad replacements.
During these intense moments, each team member has a clearly defined role to maximise efficiency and safety. According to the rules, only five personnel are allowed to assist during the refuelling process:
1. Refueller: Handles the refuelling hose and nozzle, ensuring a safe and efficient transfer of fuel.
2. Fuel Rig Emergency Cut-Off Attendant: Manages the safety valve on the fuel rig, ready to shut off fuel flow immediately if needed.
3. Fire Attendant: Positioned behind the car with a 4.5 kg fire extinguisher, ready to react in case of a fire.
4. Refueller Hose Assistant Operator: Assists with handling the refuelling hose, ensuring it’s securely connected and disconnected.
5. General Pit Crew Member: May only assist with opening the car’s refuelling point or helping the driver if they remain in the car.
Additionally, during any servicing of the car, up to four team members are permitted, with roles such as Wheel/Tyre Changers and General Pit Crew. All personnel must stay behind the prescribed line until the car comes to a complete stop and can only cross once it’s safe to begin the pit stop activities.
The Canobolas Motorsport Services team is highly experienced in adhering to these stringent protocols, ensuring that every pit stop is executed flawlessly. Their meticulous attention to detail and strict adherence to safety protocols guarantee that every pit stop is performed as quickly and safely as possible.

Driver Development Program Experience
Manarth Prasad’s passion for racing led him from track days to competitive motorsport with the guidance of RaceAway Track Time’s Driver Development Program. Under coach Phil Alexander, Manarth honed his skills, gained his Motorsport Australia Circuit License, and achieved his dream of racing in the RX8 Cup.
From Aspiration to Achievement: Manarth Prasad’s Journey with RaceAway Track Time
For many aspiring racers, transitioning from casual track days to competitive motorsport can feel like a daunting leap. But for Manarth Prasad, that leap was made possible through dedication, the right mentorship, and the tailored support of RaceAway Track Time’s Driver Development Program. Guided by our experienced head coach, Phil Alexander, Manarth embarked on a journey that saw him progress through endurance racing, hone his skills in various training days, and ultimately achieve his goal of competing at Challenge Bathurst behind the wheel of an RX8.
Manarth Prasad at Challenge Bathurst 2023 racing the RaceAway RX8 Cup Car
In this blog, Manarth shares his experience — from obtaining his Motorsport Australia Circuit License to thriving in competitive racing — and how the RaceAway team helped unlock his potential, both on and off the track.
“I've loved cars since I can remember, and had been participating in track days since I'd gotten my license. I was ready to step things up and start competing in motorsport and would need a competition license as I had aspirations of competing in the RX8 cup.
I was referred Raceaway track time for my observed license test and was pleasantly surprised to discover that my license test was to be overseen by Phil Alexander, having been a long time fan of rotaries - I recognised the name, there was a model of one of his former race cars in the workshop I use!
Challenge Bathurst 2023, RaceAway RX8 Cup Car
It's safe to say that what was meant to be a simple one day exam has turned into a valued partnership with a wonderful group of people. Though I'd obtained my license, I was by no means a racing driver - by utilising Raceaway track times connections I was able to access a variety of entry level events that I would not have known had ever existed.
“I can’t speak enough to the value to be found in working with someone with the breadth of experience provided by Phil. With a keen eye and understanding of each individual driver that he works with, the strong focus on foundational learning has equipped me with the ability to feel confident in a formal race environment. ”
Driving skills aside, understanding how to navigate the formalities of organised racing events, the decorum expected by officials at a race track - all of which is made a thousand times easier with the guidance of someone with decades of experience. It means that you're able to focus on the important part, developing your skills and driving.
I was able to participate in lower level events, frequent practice sessions and within five months, I was offered an opportunity to compete in challenge Bathurst. Through everything I had learnt in working with Phil in that short period of time, I actually felt equipped with the knowledge and ability to enjoy and learn from the experience of driving on one of the best tracks in the entire world.
Taking everything I had learnt, just under a year on from obtaining my license and now having experienced a wide variety of cars and racetracks, I have now achieved my goal of competing regularly in the RX8 cup - with the knowledge and skills I now possess, I can comfortably look upon my growth and past self and say that none of the joy any of this has brought to my life would have been possible without the guidance, friendship and company of Phil and the team. I highly suggest that anybody with the interest, whether you're an enthusiast, working on your own growth or someone with genuine aspirations towards being a racing driver - reach out to the team, there's a world of experiences and possibilities out there. All that's missing is you.”

NSW Production Touring Winner
Ronin Lindenmayer dominated Class E at Morgan Park in the NSW Production Touring Series, driving the Mazda SP25 to victory in three thrilling 1-hour races. With expert guidance from Phil Alexander and smart endurance strategy, Ronin finished 17th outright, proving RaceAway Track Time's race car hire and coaching packages are a winning combination.
Ronin Lindenmayer's Triumph at Morgan Park
This past weekend, RaceAway Track Time driver Ronin Lindenmayer showcased his racing prowess at Morgan Park during the NSW Production Touring Series, driving the Mazda SP25 in Class E. The event consisted of three 1-hour races, each requiring a compulsory pit stop of 60 seconds. Ronin secured victories in all three races, demonstrating excellent control and precision throughout the weekend.
Ronin Lindenmayer taking on a class C car at Morgan Park for NSW Production Touring
Starting from the back of the grid in 24th place, Ronin carved his way through the field, finishing an impressive 17th outright. He faced thrilling battles with faster cars, making for some edge-of-your-seat action. The tight, 2km circuit presented ample opportunities for Ronin to hone his skills in traffic, an essential part of endurance racing.
Head coach Phil Alexander played a key role in fine-tuning the race strategy. With no prior benchmark for ths particular Mazda SP25 at Morgan Park, Phil used practice sessions to determine the optimal lap times before shifting the car into "endurance mode" by reducing engine RPM by 500. This strategy prioritised tyre and fuel economy, ensuring the car and driver could run comfortably across all three races.
In terms of performance, the Mazda SP25 ran consistently throughout the weekend:
Qualifying: 1:34.9
Race 1: 1:34.7
Race 2: 1:34.78
Race 3: 1:34.27
NSW Production Touring Winners, Round 4, Morgan Park, 2024
This weekend’s success not only added another three victories to Ronin’s tally but also provided invaluable preparation for the Bathurst 6 Hour 2025, as RaceAway Track Time continues to refine their endurance racing strategy.
A special thanks goes out to NSW Production Touring and Morgan Park for providing an outstanding venue and managing the event so smoothly. Huge shoutout to the RaceAway Track Time crew, in particular Phil Alexander and Chris Holdt from Prime Motorsport, whose tireless efforts in preparation, pit stops, and race-day logistics ensured the Mazda SP25 was always running at peak performance. Without the dedication of this exceptional team, victories like these wouldn’t be possible.
For those looking to experience the thrill of motorsport, RaceAway Track Time offers Arrive ‘n’ Drive packages and race car hire, making it accessible for drivers at all levels to compete in series like the NSW Production Touring Series.

Observed Licence Tests: Your Gateway to Competitive Racing
Discover how to start racing by taking an Observed Licence Test (OLT) at Pheasant Wood Circuit. This essential step evaluates your driving skills and prepares you for competitive motorsport. Learn what to expect, how to prepare, and how to book your OLT with RaceAway Track Time.
Start Racing: All About Your Motorsport Australia Observed Licence Test (OLT’s)
If you've ever dreamed of taking your passion for motorsport to the next level, obtaining a racing licence is an essential step. For many aspiring racers in Australia, an Observed Licence Test (OLT) is a crucial part of learning how to start racing. This test not only assesses your driving skills but also ensures you understand the safety protocols and racecraft necessary to compete at higher levels of motorsport. In this blog post, we'll delve into what an OLT entails, why it's important, how you can prepare for and succeed in this critical assessment, and how to book your OLT with RaceAway Track Time.
Undertake your OLT with accredited Motorsport Australia Senior Coach Phil Alexander
What is an Observed Licence Test (OLT)?
An Observed Licence Test (OLT) is a practical driving assessment required by Motorsport Australia for drivers seeking to obtain a circuit racing licence. This test is designed to evaluate your ability to handle a race car safely and competently in a controlled environment, simulating race conditions. Passing the OLT is mandatory for anyone who wants to compete in club, state, or national level racing events in Australia.
The test is typically conducted at a track day or a designated licensing event, where an accredited instructor will observe your driving performance. The aim is to ensure that you have the fundamental skills and knowledge required to race safely alongside other competitors. If you’re wondering how to start racing, the OLT is a key step in the process.
Why is the OLT Important?
The OLT serves several vital purposes within the world of motorsport:
Safety: Racing at high speeds in close proximity to other cars is inherently dangerous. The OLT ensures that you can handle the car safely and react appropriately to different racing scenarios, minimising the risk of accidents on the track.
Racecraft: The test evaluates your understanding of racecraft, including track positioning, overtaking, and adhering to racing etiquette. These skills are crucial for competing fairly and effectively in a race setting.
Licensing Requirement: Passing the OLT is a prerequisite for obtaining a Motorsport Australia racing licence, which is required to participate in most organised racing events in the country.
What to Expect During Your OLT
The Observed Licence Test is typically conducted as part of a track day, where you'll have the opportunity to demonstrate your driving abilities under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor. Here’s what you can expect:
Pre-Test Briefing: Before heading out on the track, you'll attend a briefing session where the instructor will explain the test's objectives, what they’ll be looking for, and the criteria for passing. You'll also go over essential safety protocols and track etiquette.
Track Sessions: During the test, you'll participate in a series of track sessions where the instructor will observe your driving. They will assess various aspects of your performance, including:
Car Control: Your ability to maintain control of the car at speed, including smooth steering, braking, and acceleration.
Racing Line: How well you follow the optimal racing line through corners and on straights.
Overtaking: Your ability to overtake other cars safely and within the rules.
Track Awareness: Your awareness of other cars on the track and your ability to respond to changing conditions.
Post-Test Debrief: After the on-track sessions, you'll have a debrief with the instructor. They will provide feedback on your performance, highlighting areas of strength and any areas that may need improvement. If you meet the required standards, you'll pass the test and be eligible to apply for your racing licence.
Performance coaching is recommended to help prepare your for your Motorsport Australia OLT.
How to Prepare for Your OLT
Preparation is key to success in your Observed Licence Test. Here are some tips to help you get ready:
Attend Track Days: Participating in regular track days is one of the best ways to prepare for your OLT. It allows you to gain experience in a controlled environment and become familiar with the dynamics of driving at high speeds. Read more about track days at Pheasant Wood Circuit.
Consider Professional Coaching: Investing in a professional coaching session can provide invaluable insights into your driving technique. Coaches can help you refine your skills, identify any bad habits, and prepare you specifically for the OLT. Read more about performance coaching.
Learn the Racing Line: Understanding and consistently following the optimal racing line is crucial. Practice this skill at track days, focusing on smooth and precise inputs.
Study the Rules: Familiarise yourself with the Motorsport Australia regulations, particularly those related to safety, overtaking, and track etiquette. Knowing the rules inside and out will give you confidence during your test.
Vehicle Preparation: Ensure that your car is in excellent condition, with all safety features and mechanical systems functioning properly. This not only helps you perform better but also ensures you meet the safety standards required for the test.
Do your Paperwork: Head to Motorsport Australia’s website and fill out your circuit licence form. You will need to complete a medical and return all paperwork to Motorsport Australia. Vehicle Preparation
If you’re bringing your own car, it’s essential to ensure it’s in top condition. Check your tyre pressure, oil levels, brakes, and overall mechanical health. Track driving puts a lot of stress on a vehicle, so it's crucial that everything is in working order. If you’re opting for Race Car Hire through RaceAway Track Time, you can rest easy knowing that all our vehicles are meticulously maintained and track-ready.
Licensing and Documentation
For those new to track days, a Track Day Licence is required. Don’t worry if you don’t have one yet—you can easily purchase a Track Day Licence on the day for just $35. This temporary licence is perfect for first-timers or those who don’t hold a regular motorsport licence. Be sure to bring your driver’s licence and any necessary paperwork to speed up the sign-in process.
What to Wear
Safety is our top priority so appropriate clothing is a must. If you don’t own racing apparel - Long sleeves, long pants, and fully enclosed shoes are mandatory. We recommend wearing thin soled shoes such as converse or vans to ensure flexibility in your footwork. If you’re planning to push the limits, we recommend investing in fire-resistant racing gear. Helmets are also required and must meet Australian standard AS1698. If you don’t have a helmet, you can hire one on-site for $35 at sign-on.

4. Maximising Your Track Day
A track day is more than just driving laps—it’s about learning, improving, and enjoying the experience. Here are some tips to get the most out of your day:
Focus on Consistency
One of the keys to a successful track day is consistency. Rather than trying to set a record on your first lap, focus on consistent, smooth driving. This will not only help you improve your lap times but also reduce the risk of pushing too hard and making mistakes.
Take Advantage of Coaching
Even if you’re confident in your driving skills, a professional coach can offer insights that you might not have considered. Use your coaching sessions to refine your technique and ask questions. Whether it’s mastering the racing line or optimising your braking points, there’s always something to learn.
Stay Hydrated and Rested
Track driving is physically and mentally demanding. Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day, and take breaks between sessions to rest. A clear mind and a well-rested body will help you perform at your best.

A Brief History of the Australian Production Car Championship
The APC was first contested in 1987, making it one of the longest-standing production car racing championships in Australia. Originally, the championship was determined by the results of two races at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria. Over the years, the APCC has evolved, undergoing various rebrandings and format changes, including its stint as the Australian GT Production Car Championship.
In 2003, the championship reverted to its original name, and from 2008 to 2015, it was awarded under the Australian Manufacturers' Championship. Since 2016, it has been known as the Australian Production Car Series, continuing to draw significant interest from drivers and teams across the country.
The Structure of the APCC
The APCC is a national-level racing series sanctioned by Motorsport Australia, serving as a precursor to the Bathurst 6 Hour, one of Australia’s most challenging endurance races. The 2024 season includes six rounds, each offering unique challenges across some of the country’s most iconic tracks.
2024 APC Schedule
Round 1: Sandown Raceway (February 9-11) - 4x 30-minute races
Round 2: The Bend Motorsport Park (May 31-June 2) - 4x 1-hour races
Round 3: Queensland Raceway (July 12-14) - 1x 3-hour "Fight in the Night"
Round 4: Phillip Island (August 23-25) - 4x 1-hour races
Round 5: Sydney Motorsport Park (October 18-20) - 4x 1-hour races
Round 6: Bathurst International (November 8-10) - 4x 30-minute sprints
Each round features a mix of sprint and endurance races, testing the speed, strategy, and stamina of both drivers and cars. The Bathurst International is particularly notable, pushing competitors to their limits on the legendary Mount Panorama circuit.
Classes in the APC
The APCC features a wide range of production cars, categorised into several classes based on performance characteristics. This class structure ensures that cars of similar capabilities compete against each other, creating fair and exciting racing.
APC Classes
Class X - Ultimate Performance: The top tier for the most powerful and advanced cars.
Class A1 - Extreme Performance Forced Induction: High-performance cars with turbocharged engines.
Class A2 - Extreme Performance Naturally Aspirated: High-performance cars with naturally aspirated engines.

Class B2 - High Performance Naturally Aspirated: Naturally aspirated cars that offer strong performance.
Class C - Performance: Mid-range performance cars.
Class D - Production: Standard production cars with minimal modifications.

Racing On A Shoestring Budget
Racing enthusiasts, are you ready to hit the track without breaking the bank? Explore budget-friendly racing opportunities like race car hire, supersprints, club racing, and the magic of MX5 track cars. Let's dive into the world of adrenaline-pumping racing on a shoestring budget!
IS CHEAP RACING POSSIBLE?
For many, the thrill of racing is a passion waiting to be pursued, but the perception of high costs can often be a deterrent. However, racing on a budget is entirely possible, and you don’t need to break the bank to cross the checkered flag. Whether it’s through supersprints, club racing, or booking track days, there are several budget-friendly racing opportunities waiting for you. In this article, we’ll guide you through options to get you on the track without spending a fortune.
THE AUSTRALIAN PULSAR RACING ASSOCIATION (APRA) IS A BUDGET FRIENDLY, COMPETITIVE ONE-MAKE SERIES
Understanding the Costs of Racing
Before diving into the world of racing, it’s important to have a realistic view of the costs involved. From the car itself to entry fees, gear, and maintenance, every aspect contributes to the budget. But don’t let this discourage you! With strategic planning and smart choices, these costs can be managed effectively.
Race Car Hire: A Cost-Effective Solution
For starters, race car hire is an excellent option for those looking to dip their toes into racing without immediately investing in a vehicle. One of the advantages of renting a race car is that they come equipped with the necessary specifications for various racing classes. This means that you can experience the thrill of racing without needing to invest in a car that meets specific racing requirements. Additionally, rental race cars often come with safety gear included, ensuring that you can enjoy the experience with peace of mind.
Renting a race car can be a great option for those who want to try their hand at racing without the long-term commitment of car ownership. By opting to rent a race car, you can enjoy the excitement of racing without the financial burden of purchasing and maintaining a high-performance vehicle. This allows you to experience the thrill of racing with a lower upfront cost, making it a more accessible option for those interested in the sport.
AFFORDABLE TRACK CARS: The Magic of THE MX5
The Mazda MX-5 has earned a reputation as a budget-friendly track car that doesn’t skimp on performance. These nimble and reliable vehicles are a mainstay in club racing and track days, providing an affordable entry point for enthusiasts.
Why MX5s Are Ideal for Budget Racing
MX5s are cost-effective due to their abundance, low cost of parts, and the supportive community around them. Many racing clubs and organisations have specific categories for MX5s, offering a competitive environment that focuses on driver skill rather than budget.
Discovering Budget-Friendly Racing Opportunities
Racing doesn’t have to be a wallet-emptying experience. There are numerous ways to enjoy the sport without spending a fortune.
Supersprints: Your Entry into Competitive Racing
Supersprints are timed competitions that focus on achieving the best single lap around a track. They are an excellent starting point for aspiring racers, providing the excitement of competition with lower costs compared to wheel-to-wheel racing. Entry fees for supersprints are typically reasonable, and since the events are less demanding on the car, maintenance costs are kept to a minimum.
TRACK EVENTS: GRASSROOTS MOTORSPORT
Track run events are often aimed at a grassroots level with budget friendly entry fees and regulations that encompass a wide range of affordable cars.
Pheasant Wood Circuit hosts a number of affordable events, the most notable - the Deputy 4 Hour Endurance Race. Split between 4 drivers this event offers ample track time and door to door racing over 4 hours.
READ MORE about the Deputy 4 Hour
Club Racing: Join the Community
Club racing is the heart of grassroots motorsport. By joining a local racing club, you gain access to a community of like-minded individuals and a variety of events tailored to different skill levels and budgets.
Track Days: Hone Your Skills
Track days are non-competitive events that allow you to drive your car on a professional racetrack. They are a great way to improve your driving skills and enjoy the performance of your car in a safe, controlled environment. While track days require you to have your own vehicle, they offer the freedom to participate as your budget allows, without the pressure of competition.

How to Prepare for Your First Race
Once you’ve decided on the type of racing that suits your budget and interests, it’s time to prepare for your first race. Here’s what you need to know to get started.
Safety First: Gear and Requirements
Safety should always be your top priority. Investing in quality safety gear, such as a helmet, racing suit, gloves, and shoes, is essential. While it may seem like a significant expense, your safety is priceless, and many gear items are a one-time purchase that will serve you for multiple seasons.
Hot Tip: Club, state and national events require different levels of gear. Ensure you check with your provider that the requirements are met for your level of racing. You can check your supp regs for gear specifications.
Technical Preparation: Getting Your Car Race-Ready
If you’re using your own car, it will need to meet specific safety and technical requirements. If you’re prepping it for a certain category then download the supplementory regulations which provide the specifications you need to meet. Joining forums and connecting with experienced racers can help you understand the best practices for preparing your vehicle.
Insider Knowledge: Check the supp regs for requirements on in-car recording gear such as a GoPro or RaceKeeper. Many racing categories have made in-car recording gear mandatory with some even requiring it to be internally hardwired.
DOWNLOAD YOUR CATEGORY SUPP REGS FOR GUIDELINES ON REQUIREMENTS IN YOUR RACECAR
Maximizing Your Racing Budget
Racing on a budget requires savvy financial management. Here are some tips to help you stretch your dollars further on the track.
WATCH YOUR ENTRY FEES
Race entries often don’t include a practice day or a garage. If you’re looking at keeping costs down, compare the price of race practice to a track day earlier in the week and forgo the garage to save yourself some dollars.
Finding Sponsorships and Partnerships
Securing sponsorships can offset some of your racing costs. Local businesses may be interested in partnering with you in exchange for advertising on your race car or gear. Be prepared to pitch the benefits of sponsoring you, such as brand exposure to a niche audience.
DIY Maintenance and Upgrades
Learning to perform basic maintenance and upgrades on your car can save you a substantial amount of money. There’s a wealth of information available online, and the racing community is usually eager to share knowledge with newcomers.
Buying Second-Hand Gear and Parts
Buying second-hand racing gear and car parts can lead to significant savings. Always ensure that the gear meets current safety standards and that the parts are in good condition.
COOK YOUR OWN MEALS
Buying meals at the track adds up! Be prepared on race day by prepping your own food and taking plenty of water. You’d be surprised how quickly these little buys add up.
NISSAN N15 PULSAR IS A VERSATILE ONE-MAKE RACER ALSO SUITABLE FOR OTHER BUDGET RACING CATEGORIES
Conclusion
Racing on a budget is not only possible, it’s a reality for many motorsport enthusiasts. By exploring budget-friendly options such as race car hire, supersprints, and club racing, and by making smart choices like choosing a budget friendly track car, you can enjoy the adrenaline rush of racing without the financial strain. Prepare properly, maximise your budget, and immerse yourself in the racing community. The track awaits you—full speed ahead!

Driving Techniques for the Track
Track driving requires a different set of skills compared to regular driving. Mastering techniques such as heel-toe shifting, late braking, and understanding the racing line can significantly improve your lap times and overall experience.
The Racing Line
The racing line is the optimal path around the circuit that allows for the fastest lap time. It involves taking the widest, smoothest, and straightest route through corners to maintain the highest possible speed. Learning proper racing lines from professional racing instructors can benefit your lap times immensly. One on one performance driver coaching will give you valuble insight into how to navigate racing lines in your track car.
Heel-Toe Shifting
Heel-toe shifting is a technique used to match the engine speed to the wheel speed during downshifting, allowing for smoother and more efficient gear changes.
Late Braking
Late braking is a method where you brake as late as possible before entering a corner to minimize the time spent decelerating. This technique can shave seconds off your lap times but requires practice to master.
Maintaining Your Track Car
Maintaining a track car is crucial for both performance and safety. Regular maintenance should include:
Checking and changing fluids regularly
Inspecting brake pads, rotors, and fluid
Ensuring tyres are in good condition and properly inflated
Checking the suspension components for wear or damage
Ensure your track car is properly maintained for optimal performance
Upgrading Your Track Car
Once you're comfortable with your car's performance, you might consider upgrades. Simple performance modifications such as upgrading your tyres, brakes and suspension can all contribute to a faster and more stable car on the track.
TYRES
One of the first things you should look at upgrading is your tyres. Driving on the track puts alot more wear and tear on your tyres so you will naturally need to upgrade or replace these faster than other components. We like Nankang AR1 or Hancook RS4 which are well priced and are popular control tyres for many production race categories.
UPGRADED BRAKES
Upgrading your brakes and discs from stock can improve response and handling. We recommend Brembo Discs and Winmax pads for your track car.
Suspension Upgrades
Upgrading to coilovers, sway bars, and other suspension components can improve handling and stability, allowing you to take corners at higher speeds with more confidence.
Joining the Track Community
Participating in track days is also about being part of a community. Joining local clubs or online forums can connect you with fellow enthusiasts to share tips, experiences, and maybe even some friendly competition.
Final Thoughts
Whether you choose a Subaru BRZ, a Mazda MX-5, Porsche 911 or even your childhood dream car, the most important aspect of track driving is to have fun and improve your skills in a safe environment. With the right preparation, a suitable car, and a passion for driving, track days can be an incredibly rewarding hobby. Remember to start slow, prioritise safety, and most importantly, enjoy every lap. Track days are not just about the cars; they're about the experience and the people you meet along the way.
Happy driving! 🏎️💨
