At its core, Arrive 'n' Drive is a turnkey racing solution that gets you on the grid without the usual barriers. All you need is your race suit, helmet, and passion—the team at RaceAway handles the rest. From track-ready cars and expert coaching to full pit support, these packages are designed to let you show up and race.

The Benefits of Race Car Hire: Why Savvy Racers Choose to Rent

  1. Skip Maintenance, Transport and Storage Headaches
Maintaining and transporting a race car is no small feat, requiring mechanical know-how, sourcing rare parts, and constant upkeep between events. For those renting or living in units, the lack of garage space adds even more complexity. Add in the hassle of trailering the car to and from the track, and many drivers feel exhausted before they even arrive. RaceAway’s Arrive 'n' Drive service eliminates all these burdens—handling repairs, upgrades, storage, and transport—so you can simply show up and race, with a fully-prepped car waiting for you on the grid.

  2. Access to Multiple Racing Categories and Cars
Why lock yourself into one racing category when you can switch between multiple cars and series? One weekend, you could be tearing up the track in an RX8, and the next, competing in a Mazda MX5 endurance race. Whether it’s club racing, endurance events, or a national meet, race car hire gives you flexibility that owning a single vehicle can’t. This diversity ensures you can experiment with different types of cars to find the right fit for your driving style and goals.

  3. Expert Guidance and VIP Access to Competitive Racing
If you’re serious about leveling up, it helps to have someone with insider knowledge. RaceAway’s team, led by Phil Alexander, opens doors to national-level events and helps you navigate the world of licenses, rules, and strategies. Having someone “on the inside” breaks down the barriers to high-level motorsport, giving you access to the same tools and knowledge as seasoned professionals.

  4. All-Inclusive Support: From Pit Crews to Strategy
A major advantage of race car hire is that you’re not just renting a car—you’re getting a full racing team. From pit crew mechanics managing quick repairs to strategists mapping out the ideal race strategy, your team ensures you’re race-ready from the moment you hit the track. This service allows you to focus entirely on performance, giving you the edge over competitors trying to juggle logistics themselves.

  5. No Surprise Costs
Running a race car independently means dealing with unexpected expenses—blown tires, failed brakes, or engine repairs. With a hire package, everything is pre-budgeted. Tires, fuel, maintenance, and even spare parts are included, letting you know exactly what your racing weekend will cost. This predictability is crucial for racers looking to compete regularly without breaking the bank.

  6. Low Commitment, High Reward
If you’re not ready to invest in a full-time racing career, renting a race car gives you the perfect entry point. You can test the waters in multiple categories, refine your skills with professional coaching, and gradually build experience—all without the risk of committing to car ownership. This approach ensures you only invest more when you’re confident you’re ready to step up.

  7. Freedom to Focus on Driving
Motorsport should be about perfecting your lap times, overtaking competitors, and making it to the podium—not stressing over logistics. With RaceAway’s Arrive 'n' Drive service, the technical and logistical elements are handled for you, allowing you to concentrate entirely on driving and performance

The Role of a Refuelling Team in Motorsport

In endurance racing, a single pit stop can make or break the outcome. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Canobolas Motorsport Services to ensure that every aspect of our pit stops is executed with precision, safety, and speed. A refuelling team’s job goes beyond simply filling the tank; it’s a carefully coordinated effort involving specialised roles, each one crucial for minimising pit time and maximising safety.

Key Roles in the Refuelling Team:

  • Crew Chief: Manages the entire pit stop process, coordinating the team and ensuring all safety protocols are strictly followed.

  • Fuel Rig Operator: Handles the refuelling hose, making sure fuel is delivered efficiently into the car.

  • Extinguisher Attendant: Stands ready with a fire extinguisher, ensuring immediate response in case of any safety incident.

  • Dead Man Operator: Controls the safety valve on the fuel rig, preventing overfills and managing fuel flow.

  • Spike Man & Assist: Manages the connection of the refuelling hose to the car, ensuring a secure and swift operation.

Meet the Canobolas Motorsport Team

We are proud to partner with a team as experienced and dedicated as Canobolas Motorsport Services. Here’s a closer look at the experts who make up this outstanding team:

  • Nigel Buttriss (Crew Chief): With decades of experience in various forms of motorsport, Nigel leads the team with a deep understanding of racing dynamics. His expertise ensures that every refuelling operation is handled with utmost precision and professionalism.

  • Andrew Buttriss (Extinguisher & Rig Filler): Andrew’s role is crucial for maintaining safety during refuelling operations. His background in hill climbing and rallying, combined with his calm and composed demeanor, makes him a key asset to the team.

  • Ryan Buttriss (Dead Man Operator): Ryan’s focus and quick reflexes are vital as he controls the fuel flow during pit stops. His experience in officiating at events like the Bathurst 6 Hour has prepared him to handle the pressure of this critical role.

  • Scott Freestone (Spike Man): Scott’s dual experience as a driver and crew member provides a unique perspective, allowing him to ensure that the refuelling hose is securely connected and disconnected with maximum efficiency.

  • Andrew Brennan (Spike Assist): A newer member of the team, Andrew has embraced the fast-paced environment of motorsport and quickly adapted to the precision required for his role.

The Intensity of Pit Stops at the Bathurst 6 Hour

Pit stops at the Bathurst 6 Hour are a high-stakes dance of precision and speed, where every second counts. Each team must complete a minimum of three Compulsory Pit Stops (CPS), with each stop lasting at least two minutes to ensure all tasks are completed safely and according to the regulations. These stops are crucial for refuelling, driver changes, and any necessary car servicing, such as tyre changes or brake pad replacements.

During these intense moments, each team member has a clearly defined role to maximise efficiency and safety. According to the rules, only five personnel are allowed to assist during the refuelling process:

1. Refueller: Handles the refuelling hose and nozzle, ensuring a safe and efficient transfer of fuel.

2. Fuel Rig Emergency Cut-Off Attendant: Manages the safety valve on the fuel rig, ready to shut off fuel flow immediately if needed.

3. Fire Attendant: Positioned behind the car with a 4.5 kg fire extinguisher, ready to react in case of a fire.

4. Refueller Hose Assistant Operator: Assists with handling the refuelling hose, ensuring it’s securely connected and disconnected.

5. General Pit Crew Member: May only assist with opening the car’s refuelling point or helping the driver if they remain in the car.

Additionally, during any servicing of the car, up to four team members are permitted, with roles such as Wheel/Tyre Changers and General Pit Crew. All personnel must stay behind the prescribed line until the car comes to a complete stop and can only cross once it’s safe to begin the pit stop activities.

The Canobolas Motorsport Services team is highly experienced in adhering to these stringent protocols, ensuring that every pit stop is executed flawlessly. Their meticulous attention to detail and strict adherence to safety protocols guarantee that every pit stop is performed as quickly and safely as possible.

This guide covers everything from licensing and car preparation to RaceAway Track Time's Arrive 'n' Drive package, helping you get started in national-level racing.

The Australian Production Car Championship: Your Ultimate Guide

The Australian Production Car Championship (APC) is one of the premier motorsport events in Australia, offering drivers the chance to compete at a national level. With roots dating back to 1987, the APC has become a key fixture in the Australian racing calendar, known for its competitive spirit and diverse classes. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the history, structure, and requirements of the APC, and how RaceAway Track Time’s Arrive 'n' Drive package can get you on the grid.

RaceAway Track Time Mazda SP25 at Australian Production Cars Phillip Island

A Brief History of the Australian Production Car Championship

The APC was first contested in 1987, making it one of the longest-standing production car racing championships in Australia. Originally, the championship was determined by the results of two races at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria. Over the years, the APCC has evolved, undergoing various rebrandings and format changes, including its stint as the Australian GT Production Car Championship.

In 2003, the championship reverted to its original name, and from 2008 to 2015, it was awarded under the Australian Manufacturers' Championship. Since 2016, it has been known as the Australian Production Car Series, continuing to draw significant interest from drivers and teams across the country.

The Structure of the APCC

The APCC is a national-level racing series sanctioned by Motorsport Australia, serving as a precursor to the Bathurst 6 Hour, one of Australia’s most challenging endurance races. The 2024 season includes six rounds, each offering unique challenges across some of the country’s most iconic tracks.

2024 APC Schedule

  • Round 1: Sandown Raceway (February 9-11) - 4x 30-minute races

  • Round 2: The Bend Motorsport Park (May 31-June 2) - 4x 1-hour races

  • Round 3: Queensland Raceway (July 12-14) - 1x 3-hour "Fight in the Night"

  • Round 4: Phillip Island (August 23-25) - 4x 1-hour races

  • Round 5: Sydney Motorsport Park (October 18-20) - 4x 1-hour races

  • Round 6: Bathurst International (November 8-10) - 4x 30-minute sprints

Each round features a mix of sprint and endurance races, testing the speed, strategy, and stamina of both drivers and cars. The Bathurst International is particularly notable, pushing competitors to their limits on the legendary Mount Panorama circuit.

Classes in the APC

The APCC features a wide range of production cars, categorised into several classes based on performance characteristics. This class structure ensures that cars of similar capabilities compete against each other, creating fair and exciting racing.

APC Classes

  • Class X - Ultimate Performance: The top tier for the most powerful and advanced cars.

  • Class A1 - Extreme Performance Forced Induction: High-performance cars with turbocharged engines.

  • Class A2 - Extreme Performance Naturally Aspirated: High-performance cars with naturally aspirated engines.

  • Class B1 - High Performance Forced Induction: Slightly less powerful turbocharged cars compared to Class A1.

  • Class B2 - High Performance Naturally Aspirated: Naturally aspirated cars that offer strong performance.

  • Class C - Performance: Mid-range performance cars.

  • Class D - Production: Standard production cars with minimal modifications.

  • Class E - Compact: Smaller, less powerful production cars.

These classes allow for a diverse field, with cars of all types able to compete within their performance bracket.

Points and Awards

The APC uses a points system that rewards consistency and performance throughout the season.

Points System

  • Outright Points: Drivers are awarded points based on their finishing position in each race, excluding Class I.

  • Class Points: Points are also awarded based on a driver's performance relative to others in their class.

To be eligible for a series championship, drivers must compete in at least three rounds, including the final round. The series also includes awards such as the Sprint Cup and Enduro Cup, recognising performance in sprint and endurance races, respectively.

Tyre Regulations

Tyres are a crucial component of performance, and the APC has strict regulations governing their use.

Approved Tyres:

  • Brands: Yokohama, Hankook, Michelin, and Nankang.

  • Compounds: Only medium compounds are permitted, ensuring durability and consistent performance across the races.

  • Usage: A maximum of 12 tyres per round, with one set required to be new.

These tyre regulations are designed to maintain parity and ensure that driver skill and car setup play the primary roles in determining race outcomes.

As a one-make series, it pitches driving skill against driving skill, ensuring that the races are not only fair but also incredibly exciting. Every driver competes in identical cars, which means that winning comes down to pure driving talent and racecraft.

The series champion is determined by the highest total points across all rounds, minus the lowest scoring round. The round 7 endurance event carries double points.
