For many aspiring racers, transitioning from casual track days to competitive motorsport can feel like a daunting leap. In this blog, Manarth shares his experience — from obtaining his Motorsport Australia Circuit License to thriving in competitive racing — and how the RaceAway team helped unlock his potential, both on and off the track.
“I've loved cars since I can remember, and had been participating in track days since I'd gotten my license. I was ready to step things up and start competing in motorsport and would need a competition license as I had aspirations of competing in the RX8 cup.
I was referred Raceaway track time for my observed license test and was pleasantly surprised to discover that my license test was to be overseen by Phil Alexander, having been a long time fan of rotaries - I recognised the name, there was a model of one of his former race cars in the workshop I use!

It's safe to say that what was meant to be a simple one day exam has turned into a valued partnership with a wonderful group of people. Though I'd obtained my license, I was by no means a racing driver - by utilising Raceaway track times connections I was able to access a variety of entry level events that I would not have known had ever existed.

With a keen eye and understanding of each individual driver that he works with, the strong focus on foundational learning has equipped me with the ability to feel confident in a formal race environment. ”
Driving skills aside, understanding how to navigate the formalities of organised racing events, the decorum expected by officials at a race track - all of which is made a thousand times easier with the guidance of someone with decades of experience. It means that you're able to focus on the important part, developing your skills and driving.
I was able to participate in lower level events, frequent practice sessions and within five months, I was offered an opportunity to compete in challenge Bathurst. Through everything I had learnt in working with Phil in that short period of time, I actually felt equipped with the knowledge and ability to enjoy and learn from the experience of driving on one of the best tracks in the entire world.
Taking everything I had learnt, just under a year on from obtaining my license and now having experienced a wide variety of cars and racetracks, I have now achieved my goal of competing regularly in the RX8 cup - with the knowledge and skills I now possess, I can comfortably look upon my growth and past self and say that none of the joy any of this has brought to my life would have been possible without the guidance, friendship and company of Phil and the team. What to Expect on Your Driver Track Day
Our Driver Track Day offers an exciting and comprehensive experience, giving you the chance to meet our team, drive high-performance cars, and receive one-on-one coaching from our head coach, Phil Alexander. Here’s what your day will look like:
Schedule for the Day
8:00 AM – Sign-Up: Arrive at Pheasant Wood Circuit and complete your registration. Meet our friendly team and get ready for an exciting day ahead.
8:30 AM – Car Fitting: Get fitted into one of our high-performance track cars. Our team will ensure your comfort and safety, adjusting the car’s setup to suit your driving style.
8:45 AM – Guided Track Walk: Join our head coach, Phil Alexander, for a guided walk around the circuit. Learn about the track’s key features, including braking points, apexes, and optimal racing lines.
9:00 AM – In-Car Coaching: Start your day with personaliSed coaching from Phil Alexander. Receive real-time feedback and tips as you drive, helping you improve your technique and confidence.
10:00 AM – On-Track Sessions Begin: Hit the track for continuous laps with one-on-one coaching. Experience the thrill of driving at speed while refining your skills under expert guidance.
12:45 PM – Lunch: Enjoy a well-deserved break with lunch provided. This is a great time to discuss your morning session with Phil and plan for the afternoon.
1:45 PM – Back on Track: Return to the track for more driving sessions. Apply what you’ve learned in the morning and continue to develop your racing skills.
3:00 PM – Day Finishes: Conclude the day with a debrief session. Receive a summary of your performance, discuss your progress, and plan the next steps in your driver development journey.

One of the unique aspects of our Driver Development Program is that no previous racing experience is required. Our program is designed for experienced manual drivers who have done a few track days. Your program will be tailored to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to confidently compete in club, state, and national-level racing events. Deputy 4 Hour endurance race at Pheasant Wood Circuit offers door to door grassroots racing. Perfect for those wanting to step up from track days into racing and a fantastic training ground for endurance races. Drive an accessible Mazda MX5 or versatile Nissan N15 Pulsar. Budget friendly, get behind the wheel at one of the eight rounds in 2024.

Deputy 4 Hour Arrive ‘n’ Drive includes Saturday practice and Sunday race with everything included. That’s car hire, your own pit crew, coaching from a Bathurst 1000 top 10’er, fuel, car transport and the adrenaline rush you’ve been waiting for. Contested over 8 rounds throughout the year, race one or all of them!

THE RACE:
Enduro format over 4 hours split between 4 drivers
Each driver takes 15 minute stints with 90 second pit stop & driver change
THE VENUE:
Pheasant Wood Circuit is a 1.6km world class track, conveniently located 1.5 hours from Sydney and Canberra. Offering a technical drive with 9 corners, this tarmac will keep you challenged at each turn. Beautifully landscaped, spectators are welcome with viewing platforms placed around the track.
