SYDNEY 300 RUNDOWN
“It was a steep learning curve for both drivers…” The Sydney 300 at Sydney Motorsport Park did not fail to be an exciting race. With two newcomers behind the wheel of the RaceAway Mazda MX5 the goal was to experience racing with the “big kids” and to bring the car home.
Drivers Ronin Linden-Mayer and Michael Buckley had a blast over the weekend taking on the Pitcher Partners Sydney 300. Both drivers new faces amongst the crowd and stepping into the higher level of racing in the RaceAway Mazda MX5. The goal for the weekend - race with the big kids and bring the car home, and boy did they do just that.
The times started out around 2:08 during practice, and knocked off 2 seconds for qualifying. Head coach Phil Alexander commenting that the drivers in the field were really pushing their cars to the limit. This was evident when the sun went down and the Sydney 300 started. Safety flag after safety flag resulting in 19 DNF's.
The MX5 took a turn during a safety flag restart with Buckley holding his own at the front of 30 cars until turn 8 when a tap in the right hand rear caused a spin and left him exposed to the oncoming traffic. He was able to limp (emphasis on limp) the car into pit lane with the damage assessed as a steering arm, panel work and broken wheel. The crew sprung into action - race tape, jack and spare wheel at the ready. Phil's extensive knowledge in endurance racing prioritising the repairs required to effect a quick turn around. Where most teams would pack up, the crew pulled together and were able to get the car out to finish the final 5 laps and take the chequered flag.
The boys running their fastest lap - a 2:00 flat, showing a solid improvement over the weekend and continuing our 100% finish rate in the Sydney 300.
Phils comments about the weekend "it was a steep learning curve for both drivers, they gained invaluable knowledge in race craft, bring-the-car-home ethos and driving with the big kids"
A massive thanks to our stellar team, Ben Swatton, Jack Winter, Scott Freestone, Karen Alexander and Rod Tippett. You came together and got the car back on the field whilst supporting the drivers - couldn't ask for more

Winton 300 - 1st in Class
Pole position in the Winton 300, RaceAway Mazda SP25 taking on the iconic mini enduro at Winton Raceway with drivers Manarth Prasad and Ronin Linden-Mayer. Having practiced at Pheasant Wood Circuit the boys were ready to step it up from the Deputy 4 Hour to the state level NSW Production Touring round.
What an AWESOME weekend at the Winton 300. The team took Manarth Prasad and Ronin Linden-mayer down to the Victorian track, the first state level race for the boys. Taking on NSW Production Touring was the next level for both racers stepping up from track days and smaller club racing. Having practiced the week before in the Deputy 4 Hour, both drivers were ready to take on the longer track noting there were several straights to work on getting up to speed.
The nature of Winton is well suited to having trained at Pheasant Wood Circuit with nice sweeping straights followed by really tight corners that come back on themselves. Head coach Phil Alexander saying that he worked with the drivers on developing a consistent cornering and braking sequence whilst being mindful of keeping the car balanced particularly into turn 7. Prasad noted the straights were a great way to gain speed and working on the corner exit really set them up.
Fantastic to have the team bring home pole position for class E with many other competitors noting the drivers excellent traffic management particularly in amongst the faster cars.
Huge thanks to the crew: Kai Barlow and Toony Moore both on driver assist and spanners. Karen Alexander for socials management and driver welbeing and Head Coach Phil Alexander once again heading up the team.
Congrats boys - one for the pool room!
Deputy 4 Hour R3 - PODIUM FINISH
Deputy 4 Hour podium finish. The boys took out second place at the classic Pheasant Wood Circuit four hour enduro. Racing the Mazda MX5 the team battled door to door for second place after qualifying in first. Rod Tippett taking out fastest lap of the race.
What a weekend! The team took on Deputy 4 Hour at Pheasant Wood Circuit with drivers Manarth Prasad, Ronin Linden-Mayer, Dion Pangalos and Rod Tippett at the helm.
In the RaceAway Bumblebee MX5 the boys took on Group 1 qualifying pole position with a sweet 1.00.97.
They got an early jump on car #47 with Rod Tippett behind the wheel, and continued to battle it on the front until lunchtime break.
After lunch the field presented real door to door racing which continued all the way to the finish line. Many of the drivers commenting on the good sportsmanship of the round and the leap frogging for first and second place.
The RaceAway team brought home a second place medal with smiles all round.
Fastest Laps -
Tippett 1:01.2170* (fastest lap of the race)
Linden-Mayer 1:02.0090
Prasad 1:03.2560
Pengalos 1:01.6110
