In the world of motorsports, every second counts. Whether you're a seasoned racer or an enthusiast looking to experience the thrill of the track, the ultimate goal is to improve your performance and perhaps shave those critical milliseconds off your lap time. If you're planning to hit Pheasant Wood Circuit or any other racing venue, consider how race car hire and well-planned track days at venues like One Raceway can play a pivotal role in enhancing your skills. In this article, we'll delve into how you can maximise your performance on the track.
Understanding the Circuit: Pheasant Wood Circuit
Before you can conquer a track, you need to understand its nuances. Pheasant Wood Circuit, located in Marulan, NSW, offers a challenging layout that requires precision and skill. The circuit is known for its tight turns and technical sections that test a driver's handling and braking capabilities.
Analysing the Layout
To truly master Pheasant Wood, take the time to analyse the circuit layout. Study the racing line, identify braking points, and visualize how you'll navigate each corner. Understanding the flow of the track will allow you to anticipate movements better and maintain higher speeds through the corners.
Learning from Others
One effective way to get a head start is to watch footage of experienced drivers tackling the circuit. Pay close attention to their steering inputs, braking timing, and throttle application. Observing others can give you valuable insights into the most effective strategies for each section of the track.

Race Car Hire: Choosing the Right Vehicle
To maximise your track day experience, it's crucial to have a vehicle that's up to the task. Race car hire services offer an array of performance vehicles that are track-ready and capable of providing the thrill you seek.
Benefits of Race Car Hire
Hiring a race car for track days offers several advantages:
Access to High-Performance Vehicles: Without the commitment of purchasing and maintaining a race car, you can still experience driving a high-performance machine.
Professional Preparation: Rental race cars are typically well-maintained and prepared by professionals, ensuring safety and reliability on the track.
Cost-Effectiveness: Hiring a race car can be more cost-effective than owning one, especially if you only plan to attend a few track days each year.
Selecting the Right Car for You
When choosing a race car to hire, consider your driving experience and what you want to achieve on the track. Some drivers may prefer a car with advanced aerodynamics and a powerful engine, while others might opt for something lighter and more nimble to hone their cornering skills.
Preparing for Your Track Day at One Raceway
One Raceway offers an excellent opportunity for drivers to practice and improve their skills. Preparation is key to making the most out of your track days.
Physical and Mental Preparation
To perform at your best, you need to be in good physical and mental shape. Get plenty of rest before the event, stay hydrated, and eat nutritious foods that will provide sustained energy. Mentally prepare by visualizing the track and your laps, which can help improve focus and reaction time when you're behind the wheel.
Understanding Track Rules and Etiquette
Every track has its own set of rules and etiquette that must be followed for the safety of all participants. Familiarise yourself with One Raceway's specific guidelines, including flag meanings, pit lane procedures, and overtaking protocols.
Making Use of On-Track Instruction
Many track day providers offer the option of on-track instruction. Working with an experienced instructor can provide you with tailored advice and instant feedback on your driving. Instructors can help you identify areas for improvement and provide tips on car control, braking, and cornering techniques.
Track Days: Tips for Success
Attending a track day is about more than just driving fast. It's an opportunity to learn, refine your skills, and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Here are some tips to ensure you get the most out of your experience.
Focus on Consistency
Consistent lap times are often more important than a single fast lap. Work on maintaining a steady pace and gradually improve your speed as you become more comfortable with the car and the circuit.
Analyse Your Performance
Take the time to review data and video recordings of your laps, if available. Analysing your performance can help you see where you're losing time and what you're doing right. Use this information to make adjustments for your next session.
Stay Patient and Practice
Improving your track performance doesn't happen overnight. Be patient with yourself and recognise that every lap is a learning experience. Practice is essential, and each track day is an opportunity to develop your skills further.
Conclusion: Embracing the Track Day Experience
Maximising your performance on the track requires a combination of understanding the circuit, choosing the right vehicle, preparing adequately, and adopting the right mindset. Whether you're at Pheasant Wood Circuit, One Raceway, or any other racing venue, remember that track days are as much about learning and development as they are about speed.
Embrace the experience, learn from each lap, and enjoy the process of becoming a better driver. With the right approach and resources, you'll not only maximise your performance on the track but also discover a rewarding hobby that can bring a lifetime of excitement and fulfillment.

Did you know that budding young racers as young as 14 can hit the track?
At RaceAway we're passionate about nurturing young talent and ensuring they have the right skills to succeed on the track. We see plenty of young drivers on the tarmac who have usually started their journey in karting. Our goal with these keen ones is to ensure they have the basics down in driving a manual car, can apply these in a modified racing environment and get plenty of practice on the track.
Early skills we develop:
Spatial awareness - ensuring they are using their peripherals, staying the line and being courteous of other drivers
Downshifting into corners - bringing awareness of the sound and feel of the revs as this happens
The feel of the vehicles grip on the road and how/why this may be compromised
These points are essential for saftey and a solid development of their racing skills.
Where do you start (aka, where to spend the money)?
Coaching - A good coach is key to proper development and keeping them safe on the track. Whether they want to get into racing or simply dip a toe into track days, the value they will get out of one-on-one coaching will set them up for success.
Hire Cars - Made for beginners, the PWC Mazda 2's or RA Mazda 3 track cars are perfect for young starters. Accesible and easy to use, they ensure a good base in manual driving skills that can be easily applied to other vehicles. Hiring a track car also prevents the wear-and-tear going on the family car - especially while they are still figuring things out!
Gear - To start, ensure your teen has an FIA approved helmet (not a motorcross helmet) and good racing shoes. Racing shoes have a thinner sole allowing the driver to feel the pedals. This will allow them to develop good pedal skills with the proper gear. A long sleeve shirt and long pants will be fine for early track days - upgrading to a racing suit when you have a clearer idea of their goals.
