BATHURST 6 HOUR 2023 RUNDOWN

🔥Bathurst 6 Hour 2023🔥

The Mountain proved a successful challenge this year for the RaceAway team.

Drivers Shane Fowler, Stephen Doorey and Phil Alexander battled it out in class e to land second place.

Practice proved uneventful in the good sense that the car worked perfectly. The only thing holding us back was fog and kangaroos - a usual sight down pit lane at Bathurst. Despite this, speedy signwriter Fowler proved himself taking on qualifying for the team landing us in a healthy P1 in class and P52 outright. Fastest lap in quali being 2:52.50.

Race morning presented a chilly 5 degrees and windy which didn’t stop anyone from walking onto Conrad straight to see off the cars.

Fowler was in the hot seat and drove beautifully putting us a lap ahead of the other class e car by The race that followed was safety car city with a record 12 safety car’s and the events first race suspension.

The RaceAway Mazda took off as the clear leader and held onto the position managing to put a lap in between us and the other class e Mazda. Our middle and newest driver Doorey was sitting comfortably with his best lap a 2:54.4344, an achievement not to be understated by the recent Road to Bathurst graduate.

We chose to take our final pit stop with Alexander behind the wheel, completing the stop and heading to pit lane exit. Unfortunately we were stopped by the race suspension and our lapped competitor caught up under safety car conditions. “It is what it is” said Alexander before he proceeded to put the pressure on the gun Victorian driver from car #2 Beller Motorsports. Alexander’s extremely impressive run shows the cars with half a length in between them.

A last minute effort Alexander pulled out the teams, nay the cars fastest ever lap 2:49.5762 saw him overtake car #2 briefly before they nail bitingly pulled out the stops and got ahead. Team manager was caught anxiously screaming at her father via Natsoft to “pull his finger out {stop mucking around}”. The awesome one lap finisher saw team #2 and team #35 across the finish line only half a car length apart.

Needless to say we couldn’t have done this without our excellent  5 star team behind us.

Mechanics, Logan Clark and Kai Barlow, driver support from Nigel Fuke, coaching by Phil Alexander, Team lead Justin Mcmahon from Club Racer Engineering and Kinsey Alexander, tech support from Ben Alexander-Swatton and MWM Racing, and fuel by Canobolas Motorsport. Reports all round from how strong of a team RaceAway presented and it was all down to awesome leadership by Justin and Phil.

2024 is looking very exciting for the RaceAway Team with plans in the works to run 2 cars in the beloved class e. The build has already begun! If you’re interested in joining the team chat to us today about your motorsport journey.
