RaceAway Track Time was born out of a deep passion for motorsports by our head coach Phil Alexander. With over four decades in the motor racing industry, Phil brings a wealth of experience to making motor racing accessible and improving race times.
Phil Alexander, the driving force behind RaceAway Track Time, boasts a remarkable career spanning over four decades in the motorsports industry. From his early days of competing in the Bathurst 1000 to coaching the next generation of racers, Phil’s dedication and passion for motorsport have made him a respected figure in the racing community.
Phil’s racing journey began in the early 1980s, competing in some of Australia’s most prestigious events. He achieved notable success at the Bathurst 1000, securing top 10 finishes in 1982 and 1983. His passion for endurance racing saw him participate in renowned international events such as the Nürburgring 24 Hour and the Thunderhill 25 Hour race. Over the years, Phil has also competed in the Bathurst 12 Hour and the Bathurst 6 Hour, showcasing his versatility and skill across various racing formats.
Phil’s philosophy centers around making motorsport inclusive and accessible.
Beyond his accomplishments on the track, Phil is celebrated for his pioneering work in rotary engine tuning. Through his business, Alexander Rotary, he developed one of Australia’s first rotary racing engines and worked with racing legends like Terry Shields and Rick Shaw. His technical expertise and innovative approach to performance tuning have left a lasting impact on the motorsport industry.
In the early 2000s, Phil transitioned from racing to coaching, guiding his two sons through karting and the Pulsar Racing Series. His commitment to nurturing young talent and making motorsport accessible led to the creation of RaceAway Track Time. Phil’s vision was to provide a platform for enthusiasts to experience the thrill of racing without the need for extensive resources or technical knowledge.
Phil holds national competition licenses from Motorsport Australia (CAMS) and AASA and is an authorised senior assessor for both sanctioning bodies. His comprehensive understanding of racing dynamics and vehicle performance, coupled with his hands-on coaching approach, ensures that drivers receive the highest level of instruction.
